1/7/15 - Welcome C1.3 Students!

Hello!!

Welcome to the start of a new and exciting term at EF.  In this advanced class you will be doing a writing assignment every week and here is where you will find everything you need.  Every time we have class in the language lab, the first thing you will do is log onto your blogger account and check MY blog for the week's assignment.  The current assignment will always be titled with the current date, include descriptions of the entire assignment, and its due date.  Failure to publish the assignment by the due date will result in an "F" for the week.  Writing is an integral part of this level and if you apply yourself to these assignments your writing WILL improve dramatically!

Each assignment should be written in propper Essay format:  NO CONTRACTIONS, formal language, correct punctuation and paragraph format.  The creative writing assignments, however, will have a bit more freedom in the language used, but please work hard on making it a literary style and not giberish :) .

The title of your post will ALWAYS BE THE DUE DATE OF THE ASSIGNMENT.

I cannot see your post until you "publish" it.  Push "save" to continue working on it later and "publish" when you are finished with the assignment.

1st assignment:  due Before class on Monday, 1/12/15. <--------------Your Post's Title: 1/12/15

This week's writing assignment is about Charity Organizations. (Charity - generous actions or donations to aid the poor, the ill, or the helpless) For this assignment you will research an organization that exists to perform or support charitable actions. Brainstorming is a great way to organize your thoughts before writing. I will offer many forms of brainstorming throughout this term.

Brainstorming: Listing (Simple, to the point, no need for complete sentences)
-Name of charitable organization
-Identify the population served (who do they help?)
-What ways do they attempt to help this population?
-What are some of this organization's current projects?
-What are future hopes/goals for this organization and the population it serves?
(You don't need to publish this part; it's for your organization.)

Writing:
3-4 paragraphs:

1st Paragraph: Introduction - Who is your organization, Who do they serve, and how do they serve them?

2nd-3rd Paragraph: Current projects and goals, statistics and testimonials (testimonials - stories of the organization's successes or failures), and the organization's hopes for the future.

Last Paragraph: Conclusion - your opinion on the organization's work and the work of the particular kind of charity as a whole, your opinions on the future of this kind of charity, and an urge to your readers to aid in the charitable work that is being done.

NOTES - You should not write "I am now going to write about..." that is an incorrect introduction. Introducing topics should be done with attention getting devices such as rhetorical questions, intriguing statistics, stories and facts, or other interesting transitions into the topic. Good Luck!
